Modak

Introduction:

Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without the sweet delight of Modaks, Lord Ganesha’s favorite treat. While the traditional modak is usually loaded with sugar and refined flour, we’re giving it a healthy twist! This Ragi & Jaggery Modak recipe is rich in fiber, minerals, and natural sweetness—perfect for guilt-free indulgence.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup Ragi (Finger Millet) Flour
  • ½ cup Grated Coconut (fresh or desiccated)
  • ½ cup Jaggery (grated)
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • ½ tsp Cardamom Powder
  • Water – as required

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Sweet Filling

  1. Heat a pan, add grated coconut and jaggery.
  2. Stir on low flame until jaggery melts and blends with coconut.
  3. Add cardamom powder for aroma.
  4. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens. Remove and let it cool.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In another pan, boil water and add a pinch of salt.
  2. Slowly add ragi flour while stirring to avoid lumps.
  3. Add a teaspoon of ghee and mix well to form a soft dough.
  4. Cover and rest for 5-10 minutes.

Step 3: Shape the Modaks

  1. Grease your palms with ghee.
  2. Take a small portion of dough, shape into a cup, and fill it with the coconut-jaggery mixture.
  3. Close the edges to form a modak shape.
  4. Steam the modaks in a steamer for 10-12 minutes.

Why Choose Healthy Modaks?
